I want to create doors and windows that once created, I can keep reusing. Specifically, I'm trying to create a door & window systems that will mimic KAWNEER storefront systems.

I must be missing something, because there seems to be a million parametric selections to get my doors/windows only remotely close to my desired appearance. I'm trying to create simple aluminum frames with narrow, medium or wide stiles. This can't be that hard to create.

And better, does AMT have these door/windows as an already built entity?

Struggling,

Dave,

First, congratulations on using the ArchiCAD MasterTemplate and welcome to this forum.

I checked a few things and have the following comments:

Please see the Kawneer website where after you register and log in, user’s can download ArchiCAD library parts of Kawneer systems, and place them using the Objects Tool. Note that you will have to load those parts into ArchiCAD via the Library Manager. Most, but not all of the parts were functional, however looked good in my test. Something to be aware of is that those items are objects and as such do not behave the same way as standard doors, windows or curtain walls behave. For instance, the door object must be moved into position separately of the curtain wall, instead of being a child of the parent wall. That website can be found here at: http://www.kawneer.com/kawneer/north_america /en/bi...

I reviewed the door parameter settings in the door settings dialog box from within the Curtain Wall Tool and noted that the door styles and rails could be dimensionally adjusted, as well as the handles. I was able to closly approach those doors and windows available from their website. Please see the attached screen shot.

If those doors and windows available from within the Curtain Wall Tool are not close enough, custom subtype doors can be created for use within this system. If you are interested in that latter approach, Eric will be able to post those instructions.

Finally, any part or entity has the ability of having those parameters being stored as a Favorite, and easily retrievable.

I hope this information helps, please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Scott Bulmer, BCG

Scott,

Thanks for your response.

For commercial fixed aluminum 'KAWNEER' type windows, I found the curved window works pretty well. It doesn't come with all the interior & exterior trim options associated with residential windows. I believe I can also gang them.

On that line, a similar option for doors is not that readily modified. At least from the point of view of a novice AC12 user. I did not know that one could incorporate doors into the "Curtain Wall' tool. It makes sense and I'll look into it.

Finally, your congratulations for getting AMT is a little early. I will purchase it today as there seems to be too much set up required from an out-of-the-box AC12. I'm sure with AMT, the set up for my desired options will be much less.

Thanks Again…
